Tidelift 这家公司能否完成很多人都难以完成的事情,它既不是基金会,也不是社区知名人士,即 “We couldn’t understand why something like this didn’t exist, so we created it,” says Tidelift CEO Donald Fischer, a former executive at Red Hat who founded the company with other open source veterans.

As the world shifts from buying software to buying services, no one sells more than Amazon Web Services (AWS), and not everyone likes it. Or, rather, not everyone likes the fact that AWS has managed to turn all sorts of free and open source software into not-so-free and proprietary services, to the tune of tens of billions of dollars. In fact, AWS is so good at turning open code into closed services that it tends to make (much) more from open source projects like MySQL than those project founders ever dreamed of making, and has never been inclined to share that revenue.

Microsoft Announces Azure Pipelines with Unlimited CI/CD Minutes for Open Source

Commons Clause

The Commons Clause vs. Open Source controversy, explained

Linux

LINUX’S CREATOR IS SORRY. BUT WILL HE CHANGE?

Lights, Camera, Open Source: Hollywood Turns to Linux for New Code Sharing Initiative

what do you believe?

No longer confined to sectors whose products are software-focused, everyone from the automotive to the medical industries are writing their own code to meet their needs, some of which may surprise you.

Jim Zemlin 说 : “Open source is a diverse community”, “Companies need to be able to share what they want to share and keep what they want to keep.”

Their survey found that some 84% were using open source in their work, specifically in the fields of animation and visual effects.

At the Crossroads of Open Source and Open Standards

The Hidden Benefit of Giving Back to Open Source Software

shows that paying employees to contribute to such software boosts the company’s productivity from using the software by as much as 100 percent, when compared with free-riding competitors.

最终还是要回到管理上:“More and more, firms are having to interact with products or people or capabilities that lie outside of their direct control, and that is something that few managers fully realize at this point,” says Nagle. “Many are starting to realize it, but I think it’ll be one of the bigger shifts that traditional management goes through as the digital revolution marches on.”
